How To Clean Enamel Pan Supports

They are done, they were the wrong type of cast iron to dip in caustic. It reacts badly, all Brittania are the same and there are some other manufacturers that go white too. Others are fine, it depends on the type of cast.
You can dip them for a minute then rinse quickly, any longer than 5 minutes and they are gone.

Britannia cast iron are okay in caustic I'm guessing you've dipped the shiney enamel ones. Only brand of enamel I know that react to caustic. Probably have to get ghem re-enamelled depending on customer.

Are you using Chemex smoke clean in your tank? I would recommend switching to Metaclenz, available from this site.

Phone up your local tip to see if they have any replacements. Glad you can learn from this. I would consider getting rid of all your caustic to avoid any future mishaps. I would also stop using the customers sink to rinse off the parts.

I use Metaclenz as my dip tank chemical, it gets better and better every time you use it. I really begrudge changing the tank for new solution (once a month)
Smoke clean is great as a spray for really tough jobs, but you need non-caustic in your tank really.
Have a look on Solutions page at Metaclenz, does anyone else use it?

Follow the label instructions for dilution.
I didn't get on with Gloop, smoke clean works much better for tough carbon.

@Nick Robertson-Vousden will sort the order Ian regardless. It may have been sent already though as it's marked as complete, he's quick like that.

It can happen caustic or bio, it's just a matter of getting to know which are which, which are best to do by hand, and which are best to not clean at all. If I had my way, I would have every Brittania oven in the UK crushed, horrible, badly designed, over priced fiddly, awkward things that never cease to throw problems at you.

Paul's Correct, all about type ! you can only tell by turning over and inspect from underneath, look for paint drips= painted , but even after 1000s I feel the same destroy all Britannias, and stoke the fire with Smeg's Lol

Speaking with a few opps from Ovenu and Oven Clean about Brittania Hobs same senario they can suffer same problem, best add 1hr labour on

For your dip tank I would use the ff powder
Works really well

Inspection of the cast is a must ....like others have said ..... lightish grey cast thats quite rough looking and to the touch and generally feeling it hasnt been finished properly these are poor quality castings and generally done in china, i treat these with a wire brush grinder situation and minimal chemicals.
castings that are darkish grey/charcoal colour and feel almost smooth as if they are oiled generally fair a lot better in dip tanks...the better quality units like bosch etc have/use this type of cast ...brittania i havent come across one as yet that uses anything of high quality and like others have said, should be crushed
